Job Description

Updog Dog Walking is an established and well-respected local dog-walking company in Denver, CO. We started from scratch in early 2014 and quickly grew to be one of the top companies in the area. Our focus is building strong and lasting relationships with our clients while getting our doggie friends the exercise and attention they need. We strive to provide an unmatched experience for our clients and staff while enjoying the companionship, exercise, and fresh air this job provides. We are rapidly growing and continue to set the standard for mid-day dog walking services in Denver.

Updog services many neighborhoods including Capitol Hill, Cheesman Park, Congress Park, Downtown, Hilltop, Highlands, LoHi, Park Hill, Platte Park, RiNo, Wash Park, and other nearby communities.

For this role, we would prefer a candidate who also has a strong understanding of customer service because, in some instances, this can be a client-facing role.

Job Summary:
  • This position requires availability to work a consistent schedule each day, Monday through Friday.
  • New hires typically start at 10 to 15 hours per week, but hours can be added based on client demand and employee performance. It is rare to work more than 25 hours per week (normal walking hours fall between 10 am and 3 pm, Monday through Friday).
  • We provide all of our dog walkers with a small coverage area within our service area boundary to make travel time between walks as short and efficient as possible. We do not transport dogs. All dogs are met at their homes and walked within the surrounding area. We do not group dogs from different families together, so walkers do not have to control more than two dogs at a time.
  • All new hires are W-2 employees covered under our business insurance, bonding, and worker's compensation insurance.
  • This route will have some larger dogs who can be leash-reactive with other dogs on this route. Staff must remain attentive and follow company safety protocols. Every dog is screened before joining our pack. We do not accept human-aggressive dogs.
  • Each client is required to schedule a minimum of three days per week. New hires will operate a schedule consisting of the same dogs continuously.
  • This can be a physically demanding job. It requires the ability to walk at a brisk pace for multiple hours a day and the ability to control dogs of all sizes in a variety of weather conditions.
Responsibilities and Duties
  • You must be available each day, Monday through Friday, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. for a consistent schedule. The schedule may vary slightly daily but will be consistent week to week.
  • Driving to and from client's appointments on a set schedule.
  • Walking dogs for 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes at a time.
  • Paying close attention to and following directions from clients and management.
  • Regularly communicating with clients, management throughout our hours of operation.
  • Regular use and interaction with our dog walking software and app.
Compensation:
$22 - $26 / hour (estimated hourly wage)
$1000 - $2000 / monthly (depending on services performed, client demand and availability)
  • Starting employees are compensated at the rate of $11.00 (15 min), $16.50 (30 min), $22.00 (45 min), and $27.50 (60 min) per completed walk.
  • When calculating an hourly rate, we add 15 minutes of drive time to each completed walk. However, almost all schedules allow for less time between appointments. Thus, the estimated hourly wage is variable. The more efficient your time between walks, the higher the hourly rate will be.
  • Client gratuity is pooled and distributed among the staff with each paycheck.
  • Paid training, including CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Parking reimbursements are provided as needed.
The position starting will pay approximately $1000 for the month but can grow based on availability, performance, and client demand.

The ideal candidate:
  • This job is highly rewarding if you are passionate about dogs. Candidates should have a natural affinity for dogs.
  • Candidates should enjoy being outside and active and can physically be on their feet for multiple hours daily.
  • We would strongly prefer a candidate with customer service skills. Someone comfortable with face-to-face client conversation and interactions.
  • Independent problem-solving skills, time management, and the ability/desire to learn about dogs and our operational tools (mobile apps) will be critical to a staff member's success.
  • Updog Denver is the best dog walking business in Denver and we expect all employees to provide first-class customer service to our clients by exhibiting excellent written and verbal communication.
  • This is a perfect opportunity for professionals who can set their own schedule, stay-at-home parents, restaurant industry employees, retirees, and college students with consistent mid-day availability Monday to Friday.
  • This is an excellent opportunity for people looking to start a career, grow their current professional experience, or enjoy the companionship of dogs.
  • Many members of our staff were previously dog walkers with on-demand services, doggy daycare staff, dog groomers, or volunteers at a local shelter.
  • Every candidate should have an innate desire to care for animals while ensuring their safety.
