Position Title: Full-Time Patrol Officer
The Oberlin Police Department is currently hiring for the position of Full-Time Patrol Officer. Candidates are required to complete the following by April 18, 2025 at 11:59pm to be considered for the position:

Salary Information: Starting Rate 2025: $32.84 - $38.83/Hour ($68,307- $80,766/Year) DOQ
Starting Rate 2026: $33.99- $40.18/Hour ($70,699- $83,574/Year) DOQ
Academy Certification:
OPOTA Certification preferred but not required. Candidates hired for the position without current OPOTA certification will be sent to the Police Academy at the expense of the City of Oberlin. Employees are paid at their regular hourly rate and receive any entitled benefits while attending the Police Academy.

Department Overview
The Oberlin Police Department's mission is to enhance the quality of life in our community through the protection of life and property, to provide fair and unbiased law enforcement and to foster community partnerships. The Department has 17 full-time sworn officers and 12 civilian employees, including Dispatch and an Auxiliary Police unit. Specialized opportunities include the Detective Bureau, Evidence Technician, School Resource Officer, Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), Accident Reconstruction/Crash Officer, Honor Guard, K-9 Unit, Field Training Officer, Range Officer, UAV/Drone Program, County SWAT and Bike Patrol. The Oberlin Police Department has excellent technical equipment, vehicles, facilities, training and continued education opportunities. Oberlin Patrol Officers are represented by the Ohio Patrolman's Benevolent Association, which allows for collective bargaining for competitive wages and other benefits.
Area Information
Oberlin is a small, 4.92-square mile college town located in Lorain County in Northeast Ohio, and is intersected by State Routes 58 and 511, and US 20. Oberlin is home to Oberlin College and Conservatory, as well as the Federal Aviation Administration. In addition to its quaint downtown business district of small shops and restaurants, Oberlin also has an Industrial Park with a focus on light manufacturing, as well as additional commerce districts. The community is largely residential with a small school district, many parks and recreational opportunities and a significant non-profit sector focusing on community services.

Additional Requirements:
Valid certification of successful completion of the physical agility test from the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) or the Cuyahoga Community College Police Officer Standardized Physical Agility Program may qualify as a passing score on the Physical Agility Test in lieu of taking the Physical Agility Test.
Must be able to pass pre-employment requirements, including but not limited to a criminal history background check, drug screen and medical examination.
Hiring Process:
Applicants must submit an employment application and all supplemental documents online by Friday, April 18, 2025 at 11:59pm. Applications will be considered incomplete if the supplemental documents are not included.
Applicants must complete the Written Exam through NTN by Friday, April 18, 2025 at 11:59pm. A score of 70% or higher on the Written Exam is considered a passing score and is necessary to obtain to move on to the Physical Agility Test.
Each applicant who completes the Written Exam will be notified of his/her score. Any participant who considers his/her examination to have been erroneously graded shall have the right to appeal to the Civil Service Commission. Notice of such appeal shall be made not later than seven (7) days after notification.
The Physical Agility Test will be administered by the Oberlin Police Department on Sunday, April 27, 2025 . Applicants needing to complete the physical agility requirement will be informed of the location of the test and additional details along with the notification of their Written Exam score.
The physical agility test is scored as pass/fail. To receive a passing score on the physical agility test, applicants must meet the standards outlined in the Physical Fitness Standards available online HERE.
All candidates who successfully pass both the physical agility test and the written exam will be placed on the eligibility list, ranked in order from highest score to lowest score. The Civil Service Commission will then certify the eligibility list, which will be posted at Oberlin City Hall (85 South Main Street) and online.
Based on job vacancies, candidates will be selected from the eligibility list, beginning with those with the highest scores, to undergo an interview process.
