Position Title: Patrol Officer
The North Royalton Police Department is currently hiring for the position of Patrol Officer! Candidates are required to complete the following before the close date of April 21, 2025, to be considered for the position:
National Testing Network's Frontline National exam (Minimum score of 70% in Reading, Writing, and Video phases)
Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA, accessed through your candidate account)

Salary Information: 2025 Starting $76,065.00; top pay $92,809.00 in the 4th year.

Department Overview:
The North Royalton Police Department operates around-the-clock with full time police officers and other support personnel. The Department is comprised of the Chief, two lieutenants, and five sergeants. The remaining 28 officers serve as patrol officers, detectives, traffic officers, and school resource officers. Patrol Officers investigate motor vehicle accidents and crimes, make arrests and transport prisoners, respond to citizen calls for assistance or to check on suspicious or unusual events and enforce traffic laws. For tactical operations and large-scale manpower needs, the department turns to the Southwest Enforcement Bureau. Promotional exams are conducted as positions are vacated. The North Royalton Police Department prides itself on its responsiveness to the ever-changing needs of its citizens and on the many cooperative efforts undertaken with the community to ensure the safety and security of the residents.

Job Requirements
Age : Must be at least age 21 at the time name would be certified for appointment from an Eligibility List. No person shall be eligible to receive an original or lateral appointment after their 35th birthday.
Citizenship Required : Yes
High School Grad/GED : Yes
Valid OHIO Driver's License : Applicant must have valid Ohio Driver's License prior to appointment and maintained throughout employment.
Ability to Read/Speak English : Yes
College : Not required but additional credit will be provided for Associates and Bachelor's degrees in Law Enforcement and/or Criminal Justice. Copy of degree, official transcript and/or official letter from College or University indicating degree earned to be submitted with Candidate Documents. A passing grade of 70% must be obtained on each phase of the test to receive additional credit.
Academy Certification : Not required but preferred. Additional credit will be given for proof of valid OPOTA certification. A passing grade of 70% must be obtained on each phase of the test to receive additional credit.
Additional Requirements : A member appointed to any position in the Police Department shall be a resident of Cuyahoga County or any adjoining counties, within one year after the member's date of hire.
Competitive examination is open to all persons who meet the job requirements. Applicants must be in good physical and mental health and have good moral and financial character. Applicants must pass all three phases of NTN testing (score of 70% or higher in each phase) and provide proof of successful completion of the Tri-C agility test prior to appointment. The physical agility test is administered by the Police Training Academy at Tri-C Western Campus, Parma, Ohio. Fees for the agility test are at the participant's expense.
Hiring Process : Applicants passing the test with a minimum passing grade of 70% in each phase must submit to an oral interview and background check. Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a psychological exam, polygraph, a doctor's physical and drug screening prior to appointment.
Military : Additional credit will be given for military service. A copy of DD214 is required at the time of filing application. (Must show an honorable discharge). A passing grade of 70% must be obtained on each phase of the exam to receive additional credit. Service of less than 180 consecutive days in the Armed Services shall not be eligible for Veteran's Credit.
Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers : Any felony conviction will disqualify a candidate.
Driving Disqualifiers : Alcohol and/or drug driving convictions do not automatically disqualify a candidate. However, it may be a factor when making a hiring decision. The weight that a prior conviction is given will depend on the circumstances and time since the conviction. Must be and maintain insurability under those standards set by the City's liability insurance provider.
Drug Use Disqualifiers : Prior drug use does not automatically disqualify a candidate, but will be a factor in a hiring decision. The weight it is given will depend on the circumstances. Current drug use will disqualify a candidate.
