The Nevada County Sheriff's Office is seeking aSheriff's Sergeant! This full supervisory level classification is responsible for the supervision of Sheriff's Deputies, investigation of crime scenes and other duties. Incumbents in this classification may be assigned to patrol, investigations, search & rescue, community outreach, personnel and training or court services. This class is distinguished from the class of Sheriff's Deputy by the supervisory responsibilities, complexity of assignments and the level of expertise required to perform the duties.

Education and Experience Required
Education and Experience Required: Equivalent to four (4) years of full-time, paid experience as a sworn law enforcement officer with a city, county, state or federal police agency. One year of experience may be substituted if applicant possesses either an AA / AS degree or a bachelor's degree from an accredited college. Major course work from an accredited college or university in the criminal justice field, government, public or business administration, behavioral sciences or a related field is preferred.

Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid California driver's license within 30 days of hire. Possession of a valid Intermediate P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards Training) certificate or required to qualify and apply for P.O.S.T. Intermediate certificate by time of application.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Mobility to work in a standard office environment, use standard office equipment and attend off-site meetings; mobility and strength to respond to emergency situations; mobility to reach, grasp, bend, kneel for extended periods, climb and run; strength and stamina to lift and carry individuals weighing up to 165 pounds; vision to read handwritten and printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and by telephone.
Willingness and ability to accept assignments in a locked detention facility serving clients of various cultural, physical, behavioral and psychological profiles.
Willingness and ability to work various shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Other Requirements: Must submit to and pass a psychological evaluation, medical examination and a background investigation, if not already done as a Peace Officer for employment with Nevada County Sheriff's Office.

Nevada County employees can opt to receive dental and vision insurance without opting for health insurance coverage as well. This will give employees more flexibility to match their choice of insurance plans to their specific needs. Ameritas Dental is the dental provider offered through Nevada County and Ameritas VSP Vision Care is our vision care provider.
Retirement
The County is a member of the CalPERS retirement system and also provides the opportunity for voluntary contributions to a 457 deferred compensation account through Nationwide by way of pre-tax and Roth payroll deductions.
